PEOPLE ON THE STREET

It's very difficult to describe New York to anyone who hasn't been here. So, I decided to as people on the street for some help. All of the videos here were taken within 3 or 4 blocks of Paulina's place.

I had never met any of these people before (except the Pizza Man, of course.) I simply approached people on the street and said "I'm trying to describe Brooklyn to my niece and nephew back in California. Would you mind helping me out with a quick video?" The only person who declined was a visitor from Wisconsin...

Paulina's Place

this is the main room of Paulina's place.  She owns a 3-unit apartment building, and this is the ground floor unit. (notice the fridge, of which she is very proud - but which beeps at me incessantly)
This is Paulina's bedroom, and her ginormous bed.
This is the view from P's kitchen facing south, toward her backyard.

This is P's backyard (notice the lovely birdhouse on the fence! it looks just like her building)  The cement bench and shed were built in 1941 or 2,  during the war.  The building facing you is owned by Ernie - with whom I share lawn tips, and to whom the wind carries Emi's bubbles.

A small collection of Tas memorabilia... an onyx candle box made at Pinenut, a primitive box from the early days in oakland... a lovely card from Lizzie and, my favorite, an oragami flower made by your's truly from airplane barf bags...
